Wild & Free

Happy Holidays! The Christmas Season is in full swing. If you are like us even though you love the holidaysΒ it may also feel a little hectic and stressful. The desert has been calling our name, so our cure for the holiday stress was to take a break and hike the lonely red rock canyons. There is something about wandering these vast places that make you feel at peace and keeps us coming back again and again.

There is something mysterious about the desert and always something new to see and explore. This area is so untouched by time you can’t help but feel like you are an explorer and the first one to walk this path.

This really is the reason we keep coming back to feel completely free and feed our adventurous spirit!

“I take to the open road, healthy, free, the world before me.”

– Walt Whitman

  1. Totally agree!!! Thanks for taking me back where I belong. Only six weeks left til we make our return to our beloved southwest. Oh, I can hardly wait! Love, love your photos, especially the view out from under the petroglyph drawing on the rock above:)

  2. How beautiful! Love that little swirl on that red rock.. it does look mysterious! I have also felt more stressed this holiday than lately, but more stressed about the upcoming new year i think and how quickly time is going.

  3. Great post!!! The pictures are stunning and I LOVE the quote. Living in Canada, I haven’t spent too much time in the desert. However, we have done some cycling and a bit of hiking in the desert. Amazing. I remember cycling through vast nothingness, yet total beauty. Have a wonderful Christmas!

    1. Thanks so much for reading! We love living so close to the desert and being able to escape there often! Something about being there (and outside in general) sure keeps us sane! Lol! Merry Christmas to you too! Hope you have a fantastic holiday season!

  4. This is great! I needed the reminder as well. I love this time of year and celebrating, but I have found the intense need to create space in the midst of all the chaos. There is no better space to live into than being outside wild and free. So good.
